Lake Surveys in Dorset
The new owners of an old quarry in Dorset required several of the lakes on site to be surveyed. In particular, they needed to determine the depth as well as size of each lake. First of all Lansdowne installed an OS based grid system using the Leica GPS 900 Smart Station. Using this newly installed grid sys a robotic total station was set-up on the bank of the lake and the two surveyors were then able to criss-cross the lake producing a grid of levels.
A depth gauge was attached to the bottom of the detail pole which was hung over the side of the boat, the depth reading was added to the target height and the lake bed determined.
